Vehicle: 2014 Dodge Ram 1500, 4WD, V6-3.0L DSL Turbo, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 155,809
Problem: This Ram was dropped off at the shop because the malfunction indicator light (MIL) was on.
Case Details: After connecting a scan tool, the technician found the following two diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- P20EE - SCR NOX Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
- P2BA9 - NOX Exceedance – Insufficient Reductant Quality
There was also a warning message in the instrument cluster stating that there were 23.6 miles remaining before a “No Start” condition.
The technician replaced a damaged, leaking DEF pressure line, but the DTCs would not clear, and no resets were working in his scan tool.
Confirmed Repair: He decided to activate all the DEF heaters and do a forced regen with his scan tool. After that, he refilled the DEF tank with fresh fluid and went for a test drive. The DTCs cleared and the warning message disappeared. Fixed!
